Sunrise: A Diptych

(This is a merge of two separate images. I didn't even realize how well these images fit together until I was putting them together in a photo book.)

Here is an oddity for me. I was so excited over the sunsets I had seen on my trip to Petoskey that on my last day there, I woke up early before the sunrise and sat out on our little balcony and watched the sun rise over the little town of Petoskey. I am not a morning person for me to be up before 9am is a rare event. Before children I would typically start my day around 11am. I am a total night owl. I hate to go to bed for fear of missing out on something. What I am missing out on in my own living room I will never know. My mom says I was like this from birth. I never wanted to go to bed. My dad was working second shift when I was born (as he did most of my life), so he would do the night time feedings and such and keep me up for a few hours at night for quality time with him. I have been trying to go to bed earlier. This is in part because my husband has been basically working double shifts. He is working his night stocking job and then as soon as he gets home in the morning he turns around and goes to work with his dad in their construction business. I do miss him working his construction job but since business has been slow, we had to have another means of income. Although when he doesn't have to work both jobs, the morning is his quality time with his boys. He gets them up, fed and dressed most mornings. I am thankful for my husband although most of the time I'm not the best at showing my appreciation. I try to but most of the time my emotions and stress just seem to get in the way. One of the reasons that I am trying to go to bed earlier is so that I can try to get a better control of my stress and most of all my emotions. I know I am still battling a bit of the baby blues because unlike after having my first child I can't just pack everything up in a few minutes and take off to someone's house. Being that my second was born a mere twelve months and eleven days after my first it isn't always easy ohh and it was winter. It is starting to get easier to do this now but I still feel overwhelmed.

Well I realize that this was a long post. Thank you for taking the time to read to the end. I hope everyone enjoys. For more skywatch photos click the icon to the right.

Your images are just lovely! And thank you for sharing a little of your life! Always seek the beauty around you, and somehow the stresses of life may visit, but fade away quickly!

Well - I can completely relate to your post! For starters, I'm a total night owl. I never want to go to bed! But then again, I am not a happy camper in the morning, either. The only thing that will get me up is the lure of a great photo op!

Second, thank you for your note about my butterfly image. I am bookmarking the site you mentioned for ID'ing the moths and butterflies. Wow - a viceroy and a monarch STILL look the same to me! Not sure if I'd ever figure the difference out while chasing one around. But - I have a friend who is excellent at insect ID... I think I'll check. Thank you!

Lovely pictures. They were worth getting up for. I hope things and the need for two jobs improve. The economic slide is affecting everyone.

Those are fantastic shots!
You're husband sounds alot like mine, he always got up with the kids to do the night feedings (it was "his" time with them). I know how you feel about being overwhelmed and trying to just get up and go somewhere. It's not easy. Right now it's summer, school's out so it's alot harder since I have to bring 4 of them out, but it's also a little easier in some ways too since the first two are older. But somehow us mothers always find a way to do it.

Love the Petoskey sunset! I'm hoping to do a little shopping there this weekend.
*I hope going to bed early and your photography help relieves the stress. It's a beautiful world out there!

Oh what gorgeous photos! I had to laugh when I read of your getting up to take photos of the sunrise. I did the same thing on a recent trip to the shore in NJ. I actually liked being awake when almost everyone else was still abed. A little quiet time just for me!

Wonderful sunrise pictures - I like how they fit together, too!

Aw, it's hard with two young ones so close together - I hope you can find some quiet time just for yourself - whatever takes your mind away from your troubles. For me, it's gardening or a peaceful walk. Also, wanted to mention that I was born 11 months, 20 days after my brother. I honestly don't know how my parents coped.
Take care and all the best,

Nice idea to split the image! Interesting! Cheers, Klaus

It's amusing to me you didn't realize the pictures went together until later. I take pictures all the time and don't realize at all how terrific something is until later. (Or sometimes, how not terrific.)

Here's another one for you about me. I am 12 months and 19 days older than my brother. My parents SAID that was intentional to get the baby stuff out of the way quickly. Not sure. But can't imagine how difficult that would be!

Interesting way of doing it with the sun exactly where they meet. Must be difficult. However, I prefer to make panorama pictures in software. Maybe I am just lazy.

I love the newly created "panoramic shot" that you created. Awesome sunset!

As for your appreciation demonstration lackikng... I have been reading a WONDERFUL BOOK called "Love and Respect". I HIGHLY recommend this book to EVERYONE. It discusses the vicious cycle that comes when women need love (which we do) and they don't get it, so they withhold respect from men (which they need as much as we need love -like air), so by offering unconditional respect, they return unconditional love... everyone is happy! Best wishes with your baby blues.
